Skolverket
A digital service to empower schools and administrators
Year: 2022-2023
Client: Skolverket, Swedish National
Agency of Education
The Challenge
The Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket) was tasked by the government to digitalize the national exams. A key part of this effort was creating an e-service for transferring student and staff data to the new exam platform. Since the service needed to support multiple user groups – including IT managers, principals, suppliers and school administrators – the challenge was to design a structure that was both clear, reliable and easy to use in a highly complex context.
The outcome
The work resulted in the first version of the digital service “Administration of the Exam Service”, which simplified data administration, improved data quality and laid a solid foundation for future development. With a clear structure and an inclusive design process, Skolverket took an important step toward a more efficient and secure digitalization of the national exams. Because the service handles sensitive student and staff information, I am unable to share many visuals or updated screenshots here, but the outcome demonstrates the value of user-centered design in critical public sector solutions.
The approach
To understand user needs, I conducted interviews with principals, administrators and IT staff from all over Sweden, analyzed workflows and mapped user journeys. These insights shaped hypotheses and guided the design process. I created wireframes and prototypes in Adobe XD, which were tested iteratively with different user groups to ensure clarity and usability. The work took place in an agile scrum team alongside developers, testers, business analysts and a product owner. In addition, I contributed to Skolverket’s design system and facilitated workshops to align design decisions with key stakeholders.
